My dad was an engineer who did business with the mills. He used to come home raving about how people in the timber industry were selling off our future by selling raw timber to Asia. He said the was only one mill in the northwest, I think in Grants Pass, that processed logs into lumber according to Japanese specifications. He said raw timber was sent to Asia and a lot of it was just stored until they needed it. People in Asia realized the opportunity for old growth timber was limited and understandably took advantage of the ability to buy and stock pile it. It made him nuts.
This is one powerful piece of writing. In the future we can look back and see it as a document of our times.
Thank you for the comments regarding the Timber Industry. Hoping for its return with much better mgt.
